loopback interface for routing
it will be good to add loopback address for routing protocol like ospf and bgp expecially that can be created as connection between peers. i think is not difficoult to achieve.
@Cyberzeus the issue is that firewalls are participating in networking and need to be able to communicate routes as edge devices. The vast majority of installations of firewalls like the Sophos XG is as the primary edge router. The lines between router, firewall, and switch are blurry. There's nothing wrong with consolidating this equipment.
There is definitely something wrong with how the majority of firewalls participate in network services like routing though. Having the routing protocols BGP and OSPF together on a device should be default imply that things like Loopback interfaces are available.
Loopback interfaces are extremely useful for device management and monitoring as well as iBGP. With the advent of Azure Stack and private clouds having robust BGP functionality should really just be the default these days.
Loopback interface is the basic requirement for the appliance whichever support routing protocol. Kindly add this feature on the upcoming release.
Why does this need to be on the firewall? Why not let routers route and FWs do their stuff? Is there a compelling reason and\or use-case that demands this be on the FW?
