Allow xg home edition run on SG Hardware
You can now boot the software installer on a Sophos appliance hardware model.

Thank you "Stefan H" for the quicktip with ubuntu server. I did a'power cord reset' after formatting step. The sfos sw-installer finished like a charm after that :-)
The installer had run without problem, though it says "hardware detected" before installing.
Downloaded the isos and used "etcher" for easy bringing them onto usb-key, like its decribed here:

For all that had still issues, i did the following with success to install XG Home on SG hardware:
On the SG Firewall:
1) Resetted the BIOS to default values (maybe this step wasn't needed), anyway i could'nt reverse it at all, so who cares...
2) Connected Bootable USB Stick and installed Ubuntu Server, just default "next next" installation.
3) Connected stick with the installer of XG software and did an install. Now the installer recognized it as a, lets say "normal intel architecture". Installation successful afterwards :-)

Will it fully use all hardware (nics, asica, etc except wireless) is there any other restrictions by using the software ISO?
Tried this: HW SG 115, downloaded Sophos HOME iso => bootable USB
1. Booted to gParted Live USB.
2. Deleted existing partitions and created new ext3/4 partition.
3. Applied disk configuration.
4. Booted to Sophos SFOS Home software installer
5. Got Error:
Sophos FIRMWARE INSTALLER
Firmware version: #18.104.22.1689
Contains Firmware for: SF01V_SO01
Detected Sophos Physical Device.
Please got proper installation source
press y to reboot

Im bought some SG105 Rev2 Hardware. Give it a memory update. So know i tried to install XG Home Edition 17.5xx no problem, install success with hardware edition download. But i have no chance to register it for private use... what a mess..
Our Free Home Use XG Firewall is a fully equipped software version of the Sophos XG firewall, available at no cost for home users – no strings attached.
That‘s what Sophos promised, but they do striped down the Software Installer.
I checked it with a Hardware installer on an Virtual Box Machine. I get the WifI components installed. But Virtual Box hasn‘t the drivers for the NIC‘s.

It's already possible to use the softwarr installer to install Sophos XG Home on XG and SG Appliances.
I'm running Sophos XG on a XG115 Rev2 at home without any issues.
This is so stupid. Many people would like to buy a sophos hardware (for home or testing use) but sophos itself puts stones in the way. Managers in other companies would be fired...
Has there been any progress on this, I have a XG105 I would like to use at home.
@Sophos: Thank you for nothing!
Does this work yet?
any news on this?
Can we please have an update on this? Thousands of home users around the world are waiting on movement on this.
How can we message Alan to get his attention back on this for an update?
any update on this, just want to know if the SG125 i just bought was a waste or if i should try resell
Could you please confirm
a) you will allow sophos home licenese on an SG appliance?
b) an approximate ETA?
Totally agree, I am really wanting to protect my home with the XG Home edition, and have found an SG125 cheap, id rather run it on Sophos appliance rather than a power hungry PC sitting in the corner
please sophos, allow this to occur
Is there any update on this? I have an XG85 and would really like to be able to install home edition. The 85 seems like the perfect unit for a home user, I'm surprised I can't run home edition.
Any planned support for the XG85? I recently purchased one thinking it would work to find out it wont. Now I'm kind of out of luck. In reading this and other posts, I thought it was possible.
I posted my issue here:
Jeffrey - Thanks so much. I've had another go after your post and this time used your method (I used gparted last time and can only guess that I didn't delete the partitions properly)
Just to confirm for anyone, mine is an XG125 with SW-SFOS_16.01.1-202.iso and all is working a treat.
