Allow xg home edition run on SG Hardware
You can now boot the software installer on a Sophos appliance hardware model.
Looks like SW-SFOS_15.01.0-376.iso is needed to get this to work on SG hardware. Where can we get older versions now that Sophos has removed them from their FTP site?
I too have made the mistake of buying Sophos hardware (XG125) without reading up properly, as I thought "What better to run the home edition on?" I'm quite a noob with this stuff but thanks to everyone here have pieced together what to do (I think).I've just written SW-SFOS_15.01.0_MR-3-447.ISO to a USB stick and tried to install it. I get an error "Detected Sophos Physical Device. Please get proper installation source."
So I guess either the relaxation of restrictions hasn't happened yet or I'm doing something wrong.
Alan, I didn't remove any partitions before the install. Doesn't the install wipe everything, or is there something that has to be done manually before the install is started?
I would add that I think it's incredibly kind of Sophos to allow a home use license but then strange to limit the use on their hardware.

Hi Allen, will the XG Home for HW Models support the Wireless Module who is integrated on the Sophos SG125w? I have an SG125w @home and this will be fine if the XG home version for HW supports this. :)
Definitely interested in this!!! Any updates?
Plan on running this at our corporate offices and branches. Love to be able to run the hardware on my home network to test out features while not impacting production network.

Silly me purchased an XG115 to run my home on with the home license. Should have read up on it first, but maybe I can be happy again with an update ;-(

Hi Alan, please give us a date, we are waiting ;-)
@Alan Toews When is this expected to be implemented?

the XG Software image includes apparently no driver for the internal access point. Therefore, this solution is of limited use.
The home licenses are Software only so you can't actually use it on the old SG hardware for UTM v9 anyway.
To make it work, you would have to completely flash the hardware and re-install it with a Software Operating System not the Hardware version.
That's the only way I'm aware of making it work and installing a home license on SG/UTM Hardware.

No that is wrong.
It is not possible to install the XG home version (Software) on a SG hardware appliance.
You can read it here: https://community.sophos.com/products/xg-firewall/f/46/t/10928

I understood the request that way: (But for me just really nice to have)
Allow the HW-Appliance ISO to install also on older Systems like UTM220 with LCD support.
But at the end "Anonymous" has to elaborate us what he/she really meant.
For people which search for confirmation: XG Firewall works fine on the UTM220 but without LCD Support.
It's already compatible with the SG hardware. What is this feature request meant to be for?
Do you meant the older ASG hardware like UTM220 and the same ilk?
