The ability to utilize subordinate update caches to have a distributed update structure internally
The Sophos Central Update Cache equivalent of a Child SUM. This will allow organisations to save internet link bandwidth by allowing Update Caches to pull updates from other caches over LAN/private WAN links.
This is a must for large organisations with centralised internet breakouts.

Two other benefits shared from the customer for this feature;
1. It allows us to continue to restrict internet access capability to our local fileservers / domain controllers, therefore further limiting risk of internet facing exposure to malware, intrusion, virus attacks etc. consolidating the risk to a central update point.
2. If we were to use a cache centrally located within a data centre, this feature will also allow us to protect the bandwidth/performance of our internal MPLS circuits, by only having to download the update once to a local office cache, rather than 100’s of times in the case of our larger locations, if we were to allow our desktops to retrieve the updates from the central cache.
