WebAdmin: Use More Screen Resolution
Allow WebAdmin to scale (such as was the case in V6) to correctly use most/all of the available screen resolution. Use all the available vertical resolution (to avoid having to scroll) and also use as much of the horizontal space as possible. Simply stretching it to fit won't be pretty, focus on the vertical and use horizontal as it makes sense.

While we worked on this , the V8 WebAdmin was updated and adjusted to fit better in a standard size. However simply full-screening it or adding massive amounts of resolution wasn’t visually attractive. We will revisit this in the future perhaps.

Would be great to see UTM using the full potential of modern monitors.
Right now i can't really read the whole network object definition if its longer than 10 characters. Also the search ommits important information from the object, which makes browsing the fw rules quite uncomfortable. check the picture:

Checkpoint-like true tabular layout would certainly be a great improvement for those managing hundreds of rules. Especially considering 16x9 ratio of all current LCDs.

really hope this gets some attention. It's almost 2016, please give the thing a responsive design. A lot of us use 24inch screens or bigger... we need these pixels. It would make it so much more user friendly. especially the Firewall Projection rules...

I used a chrome css editing tool that can permanently override site css. It was trivial to create a full browser layout that reflows with width and can more into view to minimise scrolling and hunting.
It is not that hard to do. -

2 comments: Since it appears to be a browser based interface, your designers really ought be using 'responsive design' and allowing users more freedom to resize the window. Secondly, how about providing a RESTful API and letting users create their own UIs?

Still waiting on this one. It's tough as many people pointed out to use the interface on a widescreen monitor when the UTM/ASG only takes up barely 1/2 of the width of the screen. With Definitions sometimes running WAY off the side of the small section on the left, it makes "hovering" over every item slow and time consuming. The firewall rules and NAT policies end up on multiple lines which makes it very hard to read. I dont really have any other complains with the interface other than the fact that it doesnt use all of the screen real estate available. If this happens...a way to "drag" the width of the left side navigation out so it is wider would help us with the long Definition names. It's just too skinny to show more than 15-20 characters of the name. (which really becomes a problem with Interfaces and Additional IP's on an Interface)

looks a little fat and old school versus almost all other firewalls - and ive used a lot. It does look better than cyberroam though :)

Especially the FW Rules view is really unergonomic. I think it would be much better readable if it was a more tabular design, like checkpoint has it. BTW, checkpoints feature to hide / unhide rule-groups is very nice, too (a "+" and "-" at each group) . Would be great in UTM!!

It would be nice to have an alternate view of the list views that is more compact
So it would be nice to have i.e. in firewall rule list only one line per rule to get more overview. Also in other lists with more than 20 lines it's better to have a better view. To switch between original view and a overview could be a solution to hit all needs :) -

@Angelo, any further progress on this? I'm using V8.202 and still have situations where I have about three scroll bars (e.g. Proxy FIltering Rules). This is a nightmare and should be reformated in one of the next major releases. Please see also the comment 10 months ago... thx

I find the ASG GUI very attractive and very well arranged. Still I find the multiple vertical scroll bars more than very annoying. On my Laptop I have a resolution of 1366 x 768 which is very common on today 13” units.
For example on the Web Security > HTTP/S > Exception screen there are always two scrollbars. One embedded for the list view and another for the browser window. Examples like this can be found all over the whole ASG GUI.
My request would be reduce the GUI to either one of these two scroll bars.Tx in advance for considering this very soon ;-)

Angelo, it sounds like a v8.xxx request

While not something for "very soon" we do have this planned and coming for you. Thanks for the input on this one...

Even on small screens.
And even more on my wide screen monitor!! -

The fixed resolution of ASG7 is outdated. I'd like to have this feature very soon. Maybe the complete web-interface needs a redesign and a multi-window feature for different functions like looking at network definitions at the same time, when looking at live logs or browsing log files.
