  1. Add Intelligent Notification for IPSEC Tunnel Up/Down

    Hello Sophos,

    For many of our customers, we had configured a number of IPSEC Tunnels and enabled the notification when a Tunnel goes Up/Down. Due to Dead Peer Detection (DPD) the tunnel going down due to inactivity and coming up again, Which sends a number of Up/Down notifications which are useless for us.

    1. Shouldn't Sophos be smart enough to recognize the status change is due to Dead Peer Detection and do not send a notification?

    Or

    2. An alternate solution to the problem is if you can introduce an alert which sends a notification only when a tunnel is…

    • Remove UTM SSO reliance on insecure SMB 1.0

      We disabled SMB 1.0 on our domain for security reasons, and the UTM SSO stopped working.

      Apparently the UTM relies on SMB 1.0 and plain text for SSO!

      This needs fixing ASAP and support for SMB 2+ enabling.

      • Secure & Up-to-Date Password Storage for Internal Users

        Hi there,

        currently, passwords of internal users are stored as md4 hashes. According to Wikipedia, this hash function was already severely broken 10 years ago: "As of 2007, an attack can generate collisions in less than 2 MD4 hash operations" [1]. IMHO, this is a severe security issue, especially for a security device such as a firewall.

        While it's technically true that access to password hashes requires administrative access, those hashes should still be protected, even in case of compromise. This also facilitates insider attacks, and so on...

        Therefore, I strongly suggest that password storage follows well-established security principles: Use…

        • Add OSPF Interface Mode "passive".

          Add OSPF Interface Mode "passive". This is a Basic OSPF Interface feature which put the Interface Network into the OSPF but not usinf the Interface for route Distribution. There should be three modes "active, passive, disabled" .

            • Different skriplist for incoming and outgoing traffic for MailProtetion

              It would be great to have in the "Email Protection - SMTP - Transparent Mode" a different Skip-List for incoming and outgoing traffic.

              In some cases you you need to use that feature (f.e. Bridge Mode) to get all SMTP Traffic scanned for Virus and Antispam, but you need that feature only incoming.

              When you can´t skip outgoing that traffic will be blocked - so it would be great to get the solution to differ the traffic way. In other modules you have that feature.

              I know that is a special case, but without that the E-Mail Protection SMTP don´t…

                We can only use 4GB memory space with httpproxy.
                Therefore, it is not possible to sufficiently use the hardware resources with the SG 650 or the like high-end appliance.
                Please change httpproxy to 64-bit application.

                • IPS Log Files need the IPS Rule ID

                  To create an IPS exception, the system administrator must know the rule number. But there is no way to determine a rule number, so the exception capability is useless. The GUI does not provide a rule review tool. The log files contain: reason (test), group (number), class (text), and sid (number), but not a rule number. My attempts to correlate UTM field values with the Snort product documentation have also been unsuccessful. The Snort documentation refers to SIDs, but they are fewer digits than the UTM SIDs, with no discernible matching technique. Level 1 Support was also unable to add…

                  • Sophos UTM: Store Backups in S3

                    It would be great if backup (under Management->Backup/Restore) could save backups to S3 using a profile already defined under Definitions & Users-> AWS Profiles.

                    Options:
                    * Bucket name, key prefix

                    * Use existing password based encryption to encrypt file, or plaintext

                    * Use S3 KMS SSE, or specify a custom KMS key to encrypt the data with. (Both of which are quite simple to implement if you are using the boto3-based awscli

                    • XF firewall with Sandstorm and Heartbeat for home users

                      Could Sophos consider to allow the use of sandstorm and heartbeat (with sophos free AV) for home users and increasing the ip limit to 100 (IoT is around the corner) for a price per year? 10$?

                      If there is other people interested it could be another stream of incomes from sophos and at then end the use that the home users will do of sandstorm will be extremely limited compared with a company with thousands of users.

                        • Sandstorm - User informed about malicious file? Which User?

                          It would be vey helpful if the UTM could show a report including the user who intended to download malicious files and whether the user has been informed by sandstorm about scanning the file. The information in the UTM reports are not meaningful enough at the moment.

                              If you've seen my DNS best practice (https://community.sophos.com/products/unified-threat-management/f/management-networking-logging-and-reporting/32566/solved-dns-best-practice/109152#109152) post, you know that it recommends NOT using the DNS servers of your ISP and using Google or OpenDNS. The reason for this is that many providers hijack DNS, breaking rDNS.

                              When I started that post over eight (!) years ago, there were very few Content Delivery Networks (CDNs). Today, they abound, and that's a problem that may well trump thr rDNS problem. As Alexander Busch described this situati in a post near the end of the DNS Best Practice thread, "Essentially, it is about the provider operating a large…

                                • remote power on

                                  most of our SG's are in a datacenter. It would be nice to have a feature to power off/on a UTM (like the old HP ILO of Celestix IPMI interface).
                                  If an UTM somehow is powered off we now need local support in the datacenter to do a powercycle.

                                  • Allow network range object in Multipath rules

                                    This would be very useful. For example, you can allow all endpoints (DHCP range) out a failover interface (lets say a cellular WAN) but not off-site backup servers (would eat up to much bandwidth). Currently we would need to add individual hosts one by one but... really? Who wants to do that?! A range in this case would be much better...Please up-vote!

                                    • HTML5 VPN Portal for iOS

                                      The HTML5 VPN Portal works for almost all platforms exept iOS. It would be great if you could add support for RDP/VNC connections on iOS devices.

                                      • o365 proxy bypass

                                        With the introduction of O365 we have been informed by MS that we need to ensure that their IPs/URLs are set to bypass/passthrough the UTM proxy. It would be great if there was a simple tick box which would enable the list of IPs/URLs that would be updated when MS release their list.
                                        If the tick boxes could support the different applications that would be even nicer.

                                        • AD Look-up MISSING contact!

                                          At the moment the currenct build in AD check/query is _incomplete_!

                                          This is the current AD check/query:

                                          AD_LOOKUP_OK = ${lookup ldapm{referrals=nofollow user=${quote:AD_USER} pass=${quote:AD_PASS} AD_SERVER/${quote_ldap:AD_BASE}?mail?sub?(&(|(objectClass=user)(objectClass=publicFolder)(objectClass=group)(objectClass=msExchDynamicDistributionList))(|(proxyAddresses=SMTP:${quote_ldap:PRVS_FLATTEN_RCPT})(mail=${quote_ldap:PRVS_FLATTEN_RCPT})))}{1}{0}}

                                          This is what is should be (as we use it, and have to change the exim every time the UTM is update):

                                          AD_LOOKUP_OK = ${lookup ldapm{referrals=nofollow user=${quote:AD_USER} pass=${quote:AD_PASS} AD_SERVER/${quote_ldap:AD_BASE}?mail?sub?(&(| (objectClass=contact) (objectClass=user)(objectClass=publicFolder)(objectClass=group)(objectClass=msExchDynamicDistributionList))(|(proxyAddresses=SMTP:${quote_ldap:PRVS_FLATTEN_RCPT})(mail=${quote_ldap:PRVS_FLATTEN_RCPT})))}{1}{0}}

                                          When you compare them you will find that we added:
                                          “(objectClass=contact)”
                                          As Exchange ready AD's can have contacts that can receive mail from "external".

                                          This "fix" can be implemented in the next release with no problem at all.
