The fact this has been implemented in XG and left out of SG is obviously a concern for every company that's deploying the SG firewall. XG is so far from production ready, a $50 router from Walmart has more features. Stop leaving things out of the products people are USING and please start including them... it's obviously a wanted feature.

Time to look at other firewall options. This is a table stakes feature and I am shocked it is missing.

A workaround for this missing feature is to use iMacros. Te following example add hosts with dns-name, ip and mac-address and assign a dhcp-server.

        Cheers!

        Setup
        -----------------------------------------------------------------------
        - Firefox with iMacros Addon installed
        - Create CSV file C:\Users\%username%\Documents\iMacros\Datasources\MAC-Address-List.csv
with the following content (first row is header):

        DNS-name,IPv4-address,mac-address
        client0001,192.168.1.101,aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:aa
        client0002,192.168.1.102,aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:ab
        client0003,192.168.1.103,aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:ac

        - Create C:\Users\%username%\Documents\iMacros\Macros\UTM_add_Host.iim
Note: adapt %REF_DhcSer192168OnVoip to the correct DHCP-Server-reference

        VERSION BUILD=9030808 RECORDER=FX
        SET !REPLAYSPEED MEDIUM
        TAB T=1
        SET !DATASOURCE MAC-Address-List.csv
'Start at line 2 to skip the header in the file
        SET !LOOP 2
        SET !DATASOURCE_LINE {{!LOOP}}

        TAG POS=1 TYPE=DIV ATTR=TXT:Save

        Run
        -----------------------------------------------------------------------
        1. Start firefox and login to the UTM
        2. Open iMacros sidebar
        - Select "UTM_add_Host.iim"
        - Set "Max" to the amount of lines +1
        - Click "Play (Loop)"

We need this feature!!! I see Alan mentioned it is included in Project Copernicus.. but his link is dead.

Implement into the UTM now please!
We need to be able to upload Amazon S3 subnets (published here: https://ip-ranges.amazonaws.com/ip-ranges.json) into a Network Group object in UTM v9.4.
        Cheers!

We have a satellite office that is transitioning to the same email filtering service as headquarters and need to allow incoming SMTP from the filtering service's data center. Being able to export our list of data center IPs and import into the satellite's UTM 9 would save a lot of manual entry.

As the XG is not a replacement for the UTM (always told by sophos representatives) this should also be considered to be included in the UTM. XG is not ready to use/sell, so please think about optimzing adminstration and bring in features to cleanup the UTM.

+1000 would be so much easier to transition clients from Sonicwall to Sophos if this was an option on the UTM 9 , we also have not been impressed with the XG, so it really only helps us on the SG line.

Dear Sophos, it seems the most important feature you have not implemented since 2009 is the import/export capability for UTM object definitions. Everyone here is asking for it and so am I. Why is this falling on death ears?

      • timelordtimelord commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

We need this feature in UTM9, not XG. XG is terrible. We are considering changing our VPN vendor because of lack of features in UTM, and terrible configuration process in XG.

      • Anonymous commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

We have hundreds of network definitions that we would like this feature added for UTM 9.

      • mod2402mod2402 commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Why all these new features are just planned for XG? We need this also in utm 9!
Are there any features that will be implemented in utm 9.x?
We lose more and more customers. All these customers are happy with utm 9 and they don't need XG. Is UTM 9 dead?

I am aware that it can be done in copernicus but is there no way to export definitions at the moment

      • DougDoug commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

I found this thread as I'm having to create a group for Exchange Online Protection. They have a really nice text list just begging for a copy/paste. Too bad for me this feature isn't available today. I do look forward to it in the future.

In June 2009 (!!!!!!) this feature was requested, which is needed for exporting network definitions (maybe also firewall- and wepprotection-rules) and maybe to also import them again in a utm.

As it is a lot of work to re-enter over 900IP’s (which we currently have) manually if we would have to transfer it to a different UTM etc.

This is really important for us.

        Kind regards

        Ivan Sieder
